Infrastructure Engineering Manager, Forward Deployed Engineering

Responsibilities

• Build and lead the FDE Infra function from scratch, defining the operating model, roadmap, hiring plan, and team development.
• Operate as a player-coach, owning architecture patterns, reviewing core modules, and stepping into complex deployment, security, or customer escalation work.
• Define and evolve reusable deployment baselines for single-tenant FDE applications across provisioning, networking, identity/authentication, deployment workflows, observability, vulnerability management, and customer connectivity.
• Guide deployment strategy across OpenAI-hosted and customer-hosted environments, making disciplined tradeoffs between standardization and customization.
• Partner closely with OpenAI’s core infrastructure, Security, Privacy, and AppSec teams to ensure deployments align with internal standards and account for successful outcomes.
