Hiring Radar

The Hiring Radar at /radar is a single picture of demand momentumacross the market — modeled on the ThoughtWorks Technology Radar. Each dot (a “blip”) is a filter value: a technology, a role, a company, or a location. Where it sits tells you how fast demand for it is rising or falling.

The rings — momentum

The four concentric rings are a momentum axis, derived from each value’s week-over-week change in job count. Inner means heating up; outer means cooling down:

  • Surging (innermost) — demand up sharply (≥ +15% week over week)
  • Rising — growing (+3% to +15%)
  • Steady — roughly flat (−3% to +3%)
  • Cooling (outermost) — demand declining (< −3%)

A value that had no postings the previous week appears as Surging (it came from zero) and is marked as new — see Movement below.

The quadrants — dimensions

The radar is split into four quadrants, one per filter dimension. By default these are Tech, Roles, Companies, and Locations, but you can swap any quadrant to Skills, Culture, or Experience with the quadrant picker above the radar. Color identifies the quadrant; the position around the circle carries no meaning (only the ring does).

Movement — how a blip changed

Each blip’s shape shows how it moved versus the prior week:

  • ▲ New — appeared this week (no postings last week)
  • △ Moved in — gained momentum (moved toward the center)
  • ▽ Moved out — lost momentum (moved toward the edge)
  • ● Same — same momentum tier as last week

Time-travel slider

The slider steps through the weeks that have data, oldest to newest. Each stop recomputes the radar for that week, so blips glide inward as demand surges and drift outward as it cools — the story of the market over time. Use the chevrons to step one week at a time.

Filtering the radar

The radar honors the same filter panel as the rest of the site. Scope it to, say, senior remote roles and every quadrant recomputes within that slice. A quadrant never filters its own dimension, so choosing one technology won’t collapse the Tech quadrant to a single blip. See Market Dashboard for how the shared filters work.

Access

The Hiring Radar is part of the free market data — it requires a free account (sign in to view it), but it is not a Pro feature. See Pricing & Billing for what Free and Pro each include.
